Dennis Wise gave another twenty-two players forty-five minutes each at Kit Kat Crescent against York City. In the first half he chose: Gay; Richardson, Marques, Parker, Westlake; Bayly, Douglas, Howson, Weston; Constantine, Elliott. The second half featured: Hammann; Fry, Madden, Heath, Lewis; Carole, Prutton, Thompson, Delph; Beckford, Kandol. Young Ben Parker was given his first run of the season in defence and ex-Millwall and Swindon Town triallist Curtis Watson got his first start. The Minstermen included trialist former Lincoln City centre-back Matthew Bloomer in place of Danny Parslow, who was ruled out after suffering an ankle injury in training. Meanwhile, fellow trialists Joe Brown (Bradford City), Brian Dutton (Weymouth), Carl Jones (Hartlepool United), Adam Bartlett (Blyth Spartans) and trainee left-back Andy McWilliams were also introduced following the interval. Home skipper Emmanuel Panther's header clipped the top of the crossbar from Craig Farrell's free-kick inside the first minute. United’s first chance came in the fifteenth minute when Curtis Weston played in Leon Constantine only for the striker to be denied by an offside flag. United did create a couple of chances which came to nothing but their best chance fell to Tom Elliott after Ian Westlake had made good ground down the left and crossed to the unmarked Tom Elliott but his effort was deflected for a corner by York defender David McGurk, with a superb diving header to clear the effort off the line. York made ten changes at half-time, Darren Craddock replacing Ben Purkiss, Andy McWilliams coming on for Mark Robinson, Ross Greenwood for Stuart Elliott, Brian Dutton for David McGurk, Carl Jones for Matthew Bloomer, Joe Brown for Craig Farrell, Chris Beardsley for Richard Brodie, Onome Sodje for Paul Brayson, Phil Turnbull for Emmanuel Panther and Alex Meechan for Martyn Woolford. Leeds replaced their whole team as Nick Hammann, Russell Fry, Eddie Lewis, David Prutton, Simon Madden, Matt Heath, Sebastien Carole, Jermaine Beckford, Tresor Kandol, Alan Thompson and Fabian Delph took the field for the second half. There was a first game of the season for Jermaine Beckford, young defender Simon Madden and German triallist goalkeeper Nick Hammann in the second half and the keeper was soon called upon to make two good saves early in the second half. On the hour the home side made their final change as Adam Bartlett replaced Tom Evans in goal. York substitutes Phil Turnbull and Chris Beardsley both went close during the second-half before Leeds' striker Jermaine Beckford should have put Leeds in front after seventy-four minutes but shot wide when well-placed. Then later, after being put through by Russell Fry, he tested the York City goalkeeper with a strong low shot but the deadlock remained unbroken at 0-0. Former Mansfield Town striker Chris Beardsley almost won it for the hosts with seven minutes remaining when he headed narrowly wide from Alex Meechan's corner. Jon Moss of Leeds was the referee in front of a crowd of 4,019 of which 2,119 were Leeds supporters.
